Week 2: Winter Night Shelter for those experiencing homelessness in the London Borough of Merton.

This 7-week seva project continues with volunteers preparing, cooking, and serving Mexican-themed dishes.

The menu included:
• Starters: Loaded Nachos & Empanadas
• Main course: Enchiladas, Tacos & Avocado salsa
• Dessert: Churros & Tres Leches cake

Emergency Flood Relief in Sri Lanka - Part 3

Due to devastating floods that claimed lives and displaced thousands across Sri Lanka, Merton Sai Centre coordinated a UK-wide emergency relief effort, to assist the most affected communities in Sri Lanka.

With Swami's grace, and the generous support of devotees in the UK, the project has been extended to Eastern Sri Lanka, where communities have faced heavy floods in recent days.

In this Part 3 of the Seva, another 110 families have benefitted from this generosity, receiving much-needed relief as they struggle to rebuild their lives.

Our heartfelt gratitude goes to everyone for their generosity in making this relief effort possible. Together, we can continue to bring hope and comfort to those in need.

Merton Sai Centre is once again collaborating with a local charity to help run a winter night shelter for those experiencing homelessness in the London Borough of Merton.

This 7-week seva project kicked off this week, with volunteers preparing, cooking, and serving Italian-themed dishes.

The menu included:
Starters: Tomato Bruschetta and Minestrone Soup
Mains: Mushroom Fettuccine, Homemade Potato Gnocchi, and Lasagne
Desserts: Tiramisu and Torta di Mele (Apple Cake)

Merton Sai Centre organised a Bhaja Govindam training session for Bal Vikas Gurus, at the Sai Mandir. Over 30 Gurus and teaching assistants participated and enjoyed this 5-hour interactive training session, held on 11th January 2025.

To begin Swami's centenary year at Merton Sai Centre, we are blessed with the opportunity to enjoy a special musical programme by Sri Kavalam Sreekumar, on Sunday, 9th February.

The event will start with a special bhajan from 3 to 4:30pm, featuring a devotional song.

This will be followed by an evening of beautiful, spiritual music, by Sri Kavalam Sreekumar, from 5:30 to 7pm.

Narayana Seva for those experiencing homelessness

Narayana Seva for those experiencing homelessness

Some of Merton's devotees lovingly prepared, cooked and delivered 75 meals to London's homeless individuals today.

These meals included rice and curry, pasta, sandwiches, fruit, drinks and crisp packets. This service takes place every first Saturday of each month in Central London.

Vegetable Cutting for New Year's Day 2025

Over 25 devotees united to cut vegetables, helping to feed over 3000 devotees, in preparation for New Year's Day 2025.

They selflessly dedicated over 5 hours on New Year's Eve, pouring their love into their work, speedily chopping potatoes, onions, carrots, chilies, garlic and more!

Their teamwork showed the true spirit of service, creating a joyful start to the new year!

Foodbank Donations

Merton Sai Centre's Devotees generously donated 108kg of food items this week to Wimbledon Foodbank, which supports those in need.

The items included: tinned vegetables, noodles, microwave rice meals, squash/long-life juice, ketchup/table sauces, sweets and treats, biscuits - sweet and savoury, stuffing mix (dry), cranberry sauce and toiletry gift packs.

Merton Sai Centre donated 78 Christmas hampers, totaling 270kg of food, to support local community centers. The donations were distributed to Eastway Day Centre, which provides activities for older people; Age UK, which supports the elderly; and Merton Memory Hub, which cares for individuals with dementia.

Each hamper included coffee, tea, cup-a-soup, sugar, jam/spread, biscuits, baked beans, carrots, peas, and rice pudding/custard.

Sri Lanka is currently experiencing severe floods, which have resulted in several fatalities and the displacement of thousands of people.

With Swamy's grace, Merton Sai Centre has organised relief efforts to provide essentials, such as food, water, and dry rations, to over 120 families in the most affected parts of Northern Sri Lanka.

Nativity Play at our local care home - 15/12/24

30 of our young Bal Vikas children from Merton Sai Centre, together with teachers and helpers, went to our local residential care home to delight their lovely residents, their families, and staff, with our first nativity performance of the year!

The care home presented the children with a lovely shared present, which they will all enjoy using!
